Cleaning my makeup brushes has been looming over me every time I put on makeup…which is like every day. Honestly y’all, some of my brushes have not been cleaned in 6 years. I’m not sure what exactly made me decide that today, this Saturday of all days, was going to be the day that I finally cleaned them, but here we are. My favorite part about this DIY makeup brush cleaner is that I came up with it myself!
After some short Pinterest searches (I did NOT want to run into town to buy some makeup brush cleaner) I couldn’t find one that looked decent. Most of the recipes had dawn dish soap in them, which isn’t the most non toxic cleaner you can find. Therefore, I came up with this one.
You. Guys. Seriously, this could take you 5 minutes to get them brand new quality again. And three ingredients and that’s it? I’m so happy (said in Kuzco from Emperor’s New Groove voice).
A Few Things I Learned…
First off, you’re going to want to rinse the brushes in warm water. This helps you keep your cleaner longer for each brush before you have to make some more. Unfortunately, I made mine three times to get through all of my brushes—I did have a lot of brushes and it had been quite some time
Secondly, after I used the cleaner on each brush, I made some more and let all the brushes soak in it for a few more minutes. I had some brush hairs that still had a tiny bit of makeup/dirt on them and I’m a perfectionist. Obviously, this is a personal preference-most people probably wouldn’t care.
DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner Recipe
- 1 Tablespoon White Vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Branch Basics concentrate*
*optional. I would definitely suggest using some sort of cleaner. Obviously, I know there’s other non toxic cleaners out there. I’m a huge fan of Branch Basics and love their products. Unfortunately, at the moment I don’t have an affiliate marketing relationship set up with them (Hi, I’m a new blogger). So for now, consider this tidbit of information free. Perhaps someday soon this will change.
Let me know how this worked for you!!
