I love to do something fun, unique, and out of the ordinary for baby showers. Especially if the shower is for a closer friend, if I can give something extra special, I do it! If this baby is the second child or more, typically mom has quite a bit of items she needs on hand. One of my go-tos then is diapers. I like making diaper cakes or the diaper tricycles (I used this YouTube tutorial to make it). To add an extra twist, I write silly diaper messages on the diapers that I gift.
I’ve seen this done as a “game” at the shower, rather than given as a gift. The only thing I don’t like about that is that a lot of people can’t come up with something to write off the top of their heads. At one shower I attended, the mom got up and read the diaper messages at the end. We all had quite a few laughs at that!
Other Things You Can Add
Obviously, not all of us are creative enough to put together a whole diaper cake. Or, we simply don’t have enough time. I’ve come up with a short list of items you can add to your diaper stash to make the shower gift more unique. These are just simple ideas of items that go above and beyond to let mama know you love her. You can check out this post for assembling these items and more in a New Mom Gift Basket.
- Baby Wipes
- Baby Teething Toys
- gift card to a restaurant or coffee shop (brownie points if you know what mama’s favorite restaurant is)
- gift card to a children’s consignment store you know she shops at
- gift card to Amazon
- cute baby outfit
- plush toy
- baby blanket, burp cloths, bibs, etc

Silly Diaper Messages
It’s important to note that not all of these messages are silly. Some of them are just plain encouraging. Sometimes, all a mom (or dad) needs to know is that they’re doing a good job.

The Brand of Diaper Matters
Every time I gift these or have them read at a shower, I get a ton of compliments! To be honest, I’ve even written some of them on my own child’s diapers just for the fun of it. The only other thing I want to add is that the quality of diaper is a big deal to mom. Most moms I talk to either love Pampers or hate them, and feel the opposite about Huggies brands. Me personally, I really like the Huggies brand but my favorite by far is Hello Bello.
Why Hello Bello
There’s a number of reasons why Hello Bello is my go-to. I think my top two reasons are equally important to me. First off, I love that their diapers are high quality and are also advertised as a “clean” nontoxic brand. It makes me feel safer putting them on baby.
They’re also the most convenient brand as I can have them delivered to my doorstep on a subscription basis. Lastly, I love that I can pick different designs on the diapers themselves. As you can tell from this post, I love turning something boring (or even nasty) like a diaper into something fun.
If you’re a new mom curious about their subscription boxes (and all the other products they offer online), definitely check this link out!
Every Mom Is Different
Most moms have a favorite brand of diapers they prefer over others. Typically I’ve found that most moms are hesitant to switch from a diaper brand at the store to a subscription box in the mail. If I’m making the diaper tricycle cake for a mom who I know has a preferred brand that they absolutely need, I make sure I use that brand to make the cake.
However, if I know that the mom isn’t as picky, or doesn’t have a favorite brand, my go-to is Hello Bello for their fun patterns and nontoxic ingredients they use in their diapers.
