For about a year and a half now, I have been using Branch Basics as my go-to cleaning product for our home. Ultimately, I’m very excited I found them and had to write a review on Branch Basics. Read on to find out my thoughts about the company: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Why the Switch
My move towards a more nontoxic lifestyle was almost part accident. Yes, I wanted to find healthier, clean options for my family. If I’m being 100% honest, though, I was more guided by finding small business companies to support during the pandemic. That was my number one driving factor.
When I found Branch Basics (through a simple google search), I was so happy to find a brand with a relatable face behind them. Their story about their own fight to find a healthier life is inspiring and something a lot of us want to have too.
The Fantastic
Let’s just talk about how many things you can use the concentrate cleaner for. Aside from using it for the basic products listed (all purpose cleaner, bathroom, laundry, hand soap, etc.), there’s a plethora of ways that you can use the concentrate.
Turn Branch Basics into a makeup brush cleaner that will take away the makeup so nicely and easily. I’ve used it mixed with water to clean my tile floors. I love how the whole house doesn’t have a cleaning odor when I do this, but at the same time, bad odors are neutralized. The concentrate can even be used as an oven cleaner!
Lastly, I really like how long the concentrate lasts. I use up one bottle in about 9 months. I know many others use theirs up faster because they use it for so much more (getting to that) than I do. If you’re wanting to use it as a catchall for basic household cleaning products, but still going to use different items for laundry, hand soap, etc., I think it’s a perfect switch.
The Good
Aside from the fact that your dollar is going to female small business owners (which is already a big deal in my book), let’s talk about the good from the products themself. I started my Branch Basics journey by ordering the starter kit for $75. In the kit you get the concentrate, reusable bottles, and oxygen boost.
First off, I really like the concentrate. It gives a clean smell without being overpowering or unnatural in any way. I feel so much safer cleaning while I’m using it, knowing I’m not breathing in toxic fumes.
I for sure use the all-purpose and bathroom cleaners the most. Having them on hand and kept in my bathroom cabinets makes it easy for me to clean the sink, toilet, and tub effectively every week.
The window/glass cleaner works effectively. If you’re not careful, it can leave streaks on your mirrors. I’ve found if I use paper towels or microfiber cloths I can get the streaks off fairly easily. Using microfiber cloths in place of paper towels, by the way, definitely helps you reduce the amount of waste you contribute.
The Bad
Aside from those three products (and the concentrate, of course), I really don’t use the other products that much. I purchase homemade goat milk soap from someone who makes them local to me. The oxygen boost works great for towels and rugs. However I feel like if I used it for all of my loads, my clothes would be worn much faster than they otherwise would have.
I didn’t feel like the laundry detergent did a great job of keeping my clothes clean. It was adequate, but not great. In my opinion, quite a decent chunk of money is put into laundry detergent in order to achieve nontoxic results that aren’t as clean as I would have liked them to be.
It would have been wiser for me to purchase the cleaning essentials kit rather than the premium starter kit. However, we’re only talking about a $7 difference between the two. Honestly, it isn’t that big of a difference.
The Ugly
The absolute worse thing about switching to Branch Basics is dishing out $75. I feel like that’s a stretch, though. If you think about it, with all of the cleaners that you’re replacing by swapping to Branch Basics, it seems to me to be financially equal.
Frankly, I don’t have any other complaints about the company. Although, I don’t know if I would even call the cost a complaint. In my opinion, they seem pretty reasonable for the claims they deliver on. I’m overall very pleased with the Branch Basics and love using their products.
