Hi, I’m a book worm. I love to read in my spare time. I think I even like it more than I like watching movies or tv shows. Aside from reading, though, I love to talk about the books I’ve read, or am wanting to read next (I’m sure this is why I started this section of my blog). This is why I came up with a list of 10 books to read in 2023.
Before I begin, if you need more incentive to start reading more, check out Cultivate a Passion for Reading! Bottom line—reading is so, so important for anyone who’s wanting to improve their mental life.
It’s important to remember that you don’t have to read only one genre. Add a variety of different books into your list for the year. Here’s some suggestions to get you started. Some of these I have read, and some are added to my list to read in the upcoming year.

Secret Lives of the First Ladies
On my list of “to read books in 2023”. I love a good conspiracy theory, I love shocking facts, and I enjoy having a random list of useless knowledge I can spew out at the appropriate time. Ultimately, this fulfills all of those “loves” and throws in a bonus “girl power” brownie point.
God’s Smuggler
The book recently read that has caused me to think of several times since then. I read this in 2021. Frankly, it’s something I would encourage every Christian to read in their lifetime. Perfect amount of action and adventure, and good amount of controversial ideas. The best, though, is a fantastic call to action among Christians to live out their faith.
The Wild and Free Family
The Wild and Free Family is on my book list. Women have a unique advantage of really influencing the direction a family goes in life. Ainsley Arment seems to have some inspiring ideas to add to your life.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The novel I truly enjoyed from cover to cover in 2022. The writing style is so unique. I found myself starting to think and talk the way Juliet did. I was inspired by the story of Elizabeth and desperately rooted for her throughout the story. The romance wasn’t over the top or fake. In my opinion, this is the perfect fiction read to cause you to think and entertain you the whole way through.
The Alpha Female’s Guide to Men and Marriage
A bucket list read for 2023. Honestly, I wouldn’t necessarily classify myself as a type A personality or alpha female category. I do tend to boldly fight for what I think is true. Unfortunately, I can be relentless in an argument against poor Bert. Don’t feel too sorry for him, though. We’re both equally hotheaded and he can hold his own 😉 . This books look like it would offer some resources I could glean in our relationship.
Born to Deliver
An autobiography every woman and teen girl ought to read in their lives. This book tells the true story behind a girl craving relationships and ultimately finding redemption in Christ. It inspires Christian women to rethink how they treat individuals they see as inferior, sinful, or less than. Quite possibly the best autobiography I’ve ever read. You can read more of my thoughts on it here.
The One Year Daily Acts of Friendship
The encouragement I need to challenge me to be a better friend. Long story short, certain circumstances in my life caused me to pray fervently for true mom friends. Fast forward a few years and God has graciously given me three beautiful friends I love dearly. I think this might be the perfect book to improve my relationships even more with them, as well as with my best friend, Bert.
Skinny Taste Cookbook
I had to throw this into the conversation. Yes I know it’s a cookbook, but it has some great recipes in it that totally taste good. After visiting my sister in law over the holidays, when she cooked several recipes from this book, I had to get myself a copy. If improving what you eat or your wellness as a whole is a part of your 2023 goals (you can read more about that here), this is the book for you. And yes, you can read a cookbook and it will give you some benefits we talked about earlier. It might, even, be the perfect way to put yourself to sleep at night.
Dare to Lead
Need I say more? This title is truly inspiring and encouraging and has a strong call to action. I’ve added it to my list for 2023 and can’t wait to see what it has to offer.
The Little Sparrows
My absolute favorite fiction book I’ve read to date. This book is a series—hence the word “trilogy”. A must read for Christians who enjoy fiction and have a desire to help others.
