First off, let’s just start by saying this isn’t an easy, one step fix blog post about having perfect hair. This is for those of you who actually really care about having healthy, great looking hair and am tired of their current routine. Great looking, healthy hair takes effort. You don’t get to just fix one thing and bam, now your hair is going to look amazing. This also isn’t going to work overnight. That’s why this title is by December 2023. I promise you though, if you stick with this routine, it is going to work! You will get the results you’re looking for. Here’s 5 ways to have the best hair by December, 2023.
1. Change Your Diet
Think of your hair (and nails for that matter) as leaves on a house plant. If the house plant isn’t getting the nutrients it needs, the leaves are the first thing to show it. They turn brown, they wilt, they die. If your body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs, your hair will be brittle, break off, and/or fall out when you brush it or shower. What you eat is key.
This doesn’t mean you have to drastically make changes to your diet. Find little things to focus on. Vitamins like Biotin (B Complex), Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Iron, and Zinc can play such a positive effect on hair growth and overall health. Eating foods (particularly fruits and veggies) rich in one or more of these vitamins every day can allow for dramatic impact.
Some food items can supply multiple nutrients at one time. Beef liver, for example, is high in Biotin, Vitamin D, Iron, and zinc. Now all you have to do is force yourself to swallow it lol.
2. Drink Water and Focus on the Right Supplements
Drinking more water and focusing on the right supplements goes hand in hand with my first suggestion. Our bodies need water. Our bodies can use those extra supplements to help fill in the gaps. The more you hydrate yourself, the more your hair is going to thank you for it. The supplements you choose to take can help fill in the gaps where your diet is lacking.
I try to limit the amount of synthetic vitamins I take, because I know it’s better for you to consume them through regular foods. However, I started adding collagen to my morning coffee routine probably 3 months ago, and I’m excited about the results. It’s still a little early to tell if I’m actually getting results (I will update this post in the future), but I am noticing fuller hair, clearer skin, and more energy during my day. I attribute it to collagen.
There’s so many brands out there. You can find collagen at your grocery store (though I would definitely research the quality), local health food/natural food store, or on Amazon. This is the brand I buy: *I do make a small commission off of Amazon affiliate links at no cost to you. This helps me provide free content you can view at your convenience!
3. Fix Your Shampoo
Confession: I’m not a Monat fan. Most MLM businesses are overpriced and turn me off from the get go. I was actually super close, super close to ordering some Monat. I knew I needed a change and I wanted to focus on getting the hair that I’ve always wanted. So many people tell you that you can only do this from Monat.
I took their hair quiz, looked into their VIP program, and decided I would think about it before committing to that price. That’s when I started doing some more research into the company. One glance at their long list of ingredients, hearing testimonials of how hard it is to get out of their VIP program, and the amount of residue build up on the hair and scalp was enough for me to look into different options.
Around then, I heard about Under Luna from an Instagram influencer. I’ve been using their warrior shampoo for over a year now and I’m so impressed with the results. It took some getting used to at first. I wasn’t used to the smell and the texture it left my hair. Honestly, I think the first couple of washes I didn’t feel like my hair was actually clean.
I decided to stick with it for 6 months and I’m so glad I did. Yes, it’s expensive. I have to buy a new bottle once every 3-4 months. This was less than what I was buying normally, so that was a win for me. I have fine, medium length hair so I don’t have to use a whole lot. Since using it, I’ve noticed less split ends, and it seems to be getting thicker. I’m very pleased with the results and tell anyone who is wanting to switch shampoos to give this a try.
Just so you know, I’m not getting paid anything to promote them. I really like their products, and they work! You can find their website here.
4. Do What Every Other Blog Post is Telling You
You knew it was coming. If you want to have the best hair by the end of 2023, you need to do what everyone has already told you to do. Start getting regular trims. Limit the heat you apply to your hair. Don’t wear ponytails/messy buns to bed or regularly throughout the day. Don’t wash your hair every day. I will say, that last suggestion is a whole lot easier when you switch shampoo brands (see above 😉)
I try to focus on the days of the week that I want my hair to look the best—Sundays for church, any special event during the week like parties or important meetings. Then I wash my hair the night before those “big” days and use my normal hair styling products and tools. On the day to day activities, either it’s dirty hair that I can quick style before a run to the grocery store, or I wash it and don’t apply any heat or product and let it flow natural.
5. Invest in a Water Filter
Two years ago, I would have thought investing in a water filter for my shower head was over the top. Now, I’m a firm believer that it makes a difference. You simply cannot trust the water quality from city water. If you’re out in the country and live on well water, it’s still important to run tests on your water quality because you never know what can work its way into your pipes. That’s another post for a different time though.
And sure, you may have some sort of filtration system for drinking it. But that water still comes into contact with your skin and hair every shower or bath you take. If you suffer from eczema, get those weird bumps on your arms and thighs (keratosis pilaris), have the embarrassing “bacne” from time to time, or notice any other skin conditions, chances are your hair is suffering too. And, chances are the water that you’re bathing in isn’t helping you at all.
There’s two different water filters I recommend. The very extravagant, best bang for your buck, solve all of your problems tomorrow option is the Dual KDF filter from Pristine Hydro. You can find it here.
My second affordable, budget friendly option is from Amazon. Personally, I think it does what it’s supposed to. *Again, I do make a small commission off of Amazon affiliate links at no cost to you. This helps me provide free content you can view at your convenience!
